New Zealand this year was amazing. Not only did I marry K for the second time (see my earlier wedding post), but we had some other incredible adventures on our trip along with our family and friends. Some things were on my bucket list, and some things I didn’t even know should be on my list. 🙂 Regardless, we had lots of fun.
Watch the sunrise at the beach. We spent a couple days in the Hot Water Beach area on the east coast of NZ. Early one morning, K and I set off around 5:45 AM to watch the sunrise on the beach, something I have never done before. Our cabin was about half a mile from the beach. As we were walking, we began to worry that we wouldn’t make it to the beach in time. So we started running. In the dark. (This can only end well, you may be thinking.) We were running along the road and then cut through the grass to the boardwalk. My hair was blowing in the wind, my hands and face were cold in the brisk morning air. And suddenly, my feet caught on the boardwalk edge and I wasn’t running anymore. I went down with a crash. Curses and tears fell freely. My ankle was painfully throbbing. But I was not about to miss the sunset after going through all that. We were so close! So I walked (or hobbled) it off and we continued on. We made it in plenty of time. In fact, it was about 30 minutes or longer before the sun even rose above the clouds. But what a sight. It was breathtaking. Take a trip with my best friend. We have always talked about taking a big trip together, and we finally did (along with my husband, six of my family members, and one other close friend)! What an adventure. It was so nice to be able to spend time overseas with my BF. Can’t wait to do it again! Go spelunking. While in NZ, four of us did the Black Labyrinth Wild Cave Tour. Climbing, blackwater tubing, and jumping off waterfalls (backwards!), oh my! This was quite the tour. The main downfall was that it was FREEZING. Although we had on wetsuits, it was still super cold. However, it was a once in a lifetime adventure that I am so happy I got to share with three of my favorite people. One of the highlights (and scariest parts for me) was floating through the cave in complete darkness, hooked onto the tube of the person in front of you, as you stared up at the glowworms. Stayed in the most adorable tiny houses. We got the chance to stay in the cutest little cabins for a few nights on our trip. They were so cozy and quaint. I LOVED them. Hiked to Cathedral Cove. This is truly one of the most beautiful places I have been to in my life. This was also a filming location for The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. I have always loved that book series. Went to The Lost Spring hot pool. K and I had the chance to go to a beautiful hot pool in Whitianga called The Lost Spring. This was one of the most romantic spots we traveled to on our trip. So peaceful and lovely. I definitely want to go back!!
What a wonderful trip, and so special to be able to share it with family/friends who traveled from the US with us and with family/friends who live in NZ. I feel incredibly lucky.
All for now,
